Jay Paul Deratany is furthering the cause of international human rights and gay rights in his role as playwright and legal advisor.
His play Haram Iran debuted in Chicago in 2008, and has moved to the Los Angeles theater district as it is prepped for production at the Celebration Theater this March 2010.
A depiction of anti-homosexual legislation in 2005 Iran - which of course continues today - the play serves as a beacon of light in the global community, which is spotted with darkness.
Deratany is also lending his legal help on a pro bono basis to New York mother Rhonda Mangus, whose case involving her gay teen son Michael, dates back to 2005 and is now at the state Supreme and Appellate Court levels.
