It was exactly a week from today, perhaps a hour or so before the post of this blog, that I was in Washington D.C. with Advocates for youth on their annual Urban Retreat.  While there I met with several U.S. congress members, one of whom was the YOUNG and VERY PRETTY Aaron Schock.

It was a horridly rainy day here in central Illinois; the clouds were strengthened by the rushing Illinois River giving them a dark bruise purple tint. The eerie atmosphere doth not keep me and my fellow baristas from making the legendary coffee (we seriously say that, I’m not joking) Starbucks is known for.

At around eight past eleven I was working on espresso bar, when an order for a grandee, half-calf, nonfat, extra-foam, latte came through.  I looked to my side and my fellow baristas were huddled around a very attractive young man.  Then it hit me.

I WAS MAKING AARON SCHOCKS LATTE.  Now I am not a big fan of his position on policy, but he has proven himself to be far more progressive then I ever gave him credit for. He voted in support of the Freedom of Choice Act, and has a few other rather progressive bills regarding contraceptive on his belt, unfortunately the love story between he and I ends there.

As I was finishing his drink I introduced myself and told him how surreal it was that I had just been in his office less then a week ago.  He asked why I was there, and I proceeded to explain to him that I was part of a lobby day to gain support for the R.E.A.L. Act.  As I was finishing my tale he shook my hand and told everyone goodbye.

Now, it’s not that I wanted him to jump directly onto my bandwagon, but he could have made some comment on his position.  If you folks who were in the media training can recall the portion of the lecture were they explained answer v respond. I was totally and completely responded to. And yes, it did piss me off.

I guess the good news is that election year is coming up.  In my district there is a good labor movement man who works at the AFL/CIO building in Peoria.  There is a good chance I may end up working on his campaign trail.

Alas there is still some hope in me for Rep. Schock.  Who knows he may end up surprising me.

Till next time,
Ryan
