This entry is a part of our World Aids Day blogathon

This day has been one of the most anticipated days for me. While I was on my way to school in the taxi there was an interview that was being conducted by one of our well-known radio personality it is so amazing and alarming how people can be so judgmental. The project manager of the sex ed best said project was speaking on the various issues affecting young people as it relates to sex. To no surprise the taxi-man blurted out “Rubbish” absolute rubbish I was so appalled at his behaviour. I know it is wrong to judge people but I was shock that he would say that society is responsible for the problems that our youths are facing; don’t get me wrong I am not saying that society does not play an active part in contributing to the situation but they are not entirely to blame for what is happening today. The slogan this year for World Aids Day was: yes I can support someone living with hiv/aids was absolutely great although I was a little disappointed in the number of person who actually embraced the concept. At my school we decorated the lawns with Hugh red ribbons every student wore a little red ribbon to show their support for persons who are affected by the virus and for those who are living with it. In addition, there is still a great deal of things that can be done but we will continue to advocate against discrimination and for safer sex practices. The Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network did a wonderful job at the Devon house to educate persons on the importance of always using a condom and to shed some light on some of the myths surrounding Hiv/Aids and other Sexually Transmitted Disease (STI).
