Blog - Amplify your voice

Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 10:47:00 PM EST

Does it seem a bit awkward to post a question like this on a website like Amplify? A bit. But I know that here I'll get some responses. Here's a bit of backstory before I go right into it.

I'm writing a book. (Can you read it? No. It's only the first draft, and I can almost guarantee it will never ever get published.) It's about a transsexual boy named Flynn who desperately wants to be a girl in a society that wouldn't want him to be. I try to make this as authentic as possible, using examples from the town I live in and area surrounding it. Here are a few questions for everyone here:

How does your local community react to the GLBTQ society, especially transgenders?

Do you personally know anyone transgendered?

(For transgendered only) What are some daily to not-so-daily problems faced by society?

If you are not comfortable answering these questions, you do not have to. I only want to make this novel as factual as possible, and I do not have the personal resources to do so. If you'd like to contact me, you can do so through comments or at strictlyauthoringpurposes@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and for being here on Amplify.

If you are trying to make it authentic then why start off with something that is complete nonsense?

No transsexual boy wants to be a girl. A person who wanted to be a girl would simply be a girl and would not be a transsexual boy in the first place. What a silly contradiction.

I suppose you mean a transsexual boy who has a "change of heart" and wants to revert to girlhood. It just does not happen in practice. The nearest you get is a girl who wants a flat chest and testosterone but doctors won't give that to her unless she deceives them into believing that she is a transsexual boy. That does happen sometimes, but only because an organization called WPATH forces non-transsexual people to pretend to be transsexual by holding their needed hormones to a ransom of consenting to psychiatric diagnosis. Please google on WPATH and get educated on the topic.

Henry may have been a bit harsh in his comment... And honestly confused me a bit.

But he has a point. If Flynn is MtF, she doesn't necessarily want to be a girl. Most trans women spend a lot of time wanting to be boys, trying to be normal by stashing away their true self.  They also can wish that they could have been born in the right body or are allowed to be who they are.

You should try asking on an actual trans forum, you'll get better results. Here are some good ones:
