On November 19th GenderBloc acknowledged Transgender Day of Remembrance in many ways. Some ways were more traditional than others.   This year the members of GenderBloc memorialized those killed in hate crimes against gender identity or gender expression by placing white flags on McMicken Commons. In between and around the flags the sidewalk was chalked with messages of remembrance and statistics.

As the sun came up GenderBlocers were awake and ready for action!

"10 Transgender victims this year were from the U.S."

"3 Ohioians were killed due to gender identity from 2000 to this year"
Its night time. Time to take down the flags and get ready for the Show!
In addition to the more somber recognition, TDOR was also the day of the GenderBloc GenderF*ck.  Numbers from the show included serious numbers such as “Breakeven” performed by Heywood Jablowme and more humorous numbers such as "He Whipped My Ass in Tennis".  The overall theme of the show like always was that gender expression is flexible and fun to mess around with.  The show ended with GenderBloc’s rendition of “Single Ladies” The tips from the show were split between GenderBloc’s work and their chosen charity of the evening, TransOhio.  In addition to the many performances, throughout the night GenderBloc condom fairies were on hand passing out condoms, condom instructions and messages about TDOR to the audience.  GenderBloc holds drag shows at the University of Cincinnati once a quarter.
