I want to say I am a teen parent and I didn't get any information about STD's and protection. I say why not hand out condoms at least if someone is going to have sex it is going to be in a safe way. Public Schools might say why cant the sex ed. be learned at home. I can tell them why, some parents come from other countrys where that is not talked about and families don't believe in teaching there kids that, but seeing how soceity is moving and the media makes us see things, might as well share accurate and safe information that is needed to make healthy choices.

Well said. A lot of the "Adults" out their that make the decisions on whether to educate students about sex, show how to use condoms, etc., do not understand that here, in the U.S., there is not just one type of parent or one type of family dynamic. We are a very diversified country, and not all parents are going to educate their children. So, well said, 'latinablueeyes'. Keep posting about your thoughts on this and just maybe someone will listen. Don't forget that the government insists on "governing", so to speak, about this issue in which they should have no say except to allow sex ed in schools. Including basic sex education and how important it is to avoid getting pregnant at such a young age, handing out condoms, showing how to use and even promoting abstinence as a first option--which should always be a first option, however, teens raging hormones don't always "overrule" what teachers and the 'good' parents preach. If Parents are not going to take responsibility (which is proven statistically that that isn't always the way it is) for teaching their children how not to get pregnant and about sex, that is what the school system and teachers are for!! If you ever have a question or problem, go to your guidence couselor or an adult that you TRUST. ( I'm assuming that you are young)
