Working with Teen Parents and being a Teen Parent is something you don't see alot. I think when working with teens,, your best chance is getting someone their age to talk to them about experience that they have gone thru in order for them to pay attention. I work with teen parents, especially single young mothers, and they tell me about their struggles - like going to school, looking for a job, being responsible and doing right things and making healthy decisions. (And what I mean by healthy decisions is getting on birth control if they know they are going to be having sex and don't want another baby, or staying abstinent after giving birth.) Looking for a job spending time with the baby also are important - and so is just trying to be a good parent.
The way society sees teen parents is that they can't do anything, they're dumb. Why judge us teen parents? Maybe if we had good sex education we wouldn't be in that situation, or maybe if adults would just be open with us about sex overall. I encourage on a daily basis other teens not to give up - nothing is impossible. I share my story with them and I know it gives them faith not to give up.
