I want to say I am a teen parent and I didn't get any information about STD's and protection. I say why not hand out condoms at least if someone is going to have sex it is going to be in a safe way. Public Schools might say why cant the sex ed. be learned at home. I can tell them why, some parents come from other countrys where that is not talked about and families don't believe in teaching there kids that, but seeing how soceity is moving and the media makes us see things, might as well share accurate and safe information that is needed to make healthy choices.

My experience lobbying in Springfield was somewhat upsetting to me. I went to lobby with Representative Susana Mendoza -- she did not come out. My peers and I were waiting for about two hours. We sent 3 cards to her. The trainings on the 12th were great we did skits on what young parents go through and talked about Youth Activisim. It was a great experience.

Unstead of judging why not help unstead of blaming youth why not blame thyself . People say youth don't know but if yall only knew we are the best of the best just give us the chance and tools to do what is best.Only if you knew that the future is what makes us the best. I can tell you why us the future before me is what makes us the leaders we are soon to be  just give us our chance and we can show you what's best our community and nation is what lets us be the leaders we are soon to be..~ Samantha Parra

It always seemd to me that when someone is stressed out , it is because there''s to much on there plate. There is things in your life that you need to eleminate. Taking your time day by day is the best thing you can do when under stress.Always remember that you need to give yourself time to relax. It may not seem like you don't have time for yourself, but there's time you just got to give it to yourself.

Dear, Mom & Dad
I know you always want whats best for me and my future. But today I'm being asked to make decisions without any knowledge to base my decisions on. Everyday at school I see and hear about my peers making choices about engaging in sexual activity. The time  is coming for me to make these decisions too. With the abstinence only program used in my school I am not being given the acurate information I need to make informed wise decisions about my health. Today please use  your voice to speak for me and my classmates. Please tell my city's school board to implement a comprehensive sexual education program in my school. My health and happiness could depend on it.

Some teacher asked me the other day about what I thought about 6 graders getting taught about sex I said I think young people should know about there bodies and educated subjects involving there sexual health. I said we should be able to have access to condoms and correct information. I got a group of my friends to tell him what happens when young people don’t get correct information. I am first of all a teen parent I said if I would have got correct information I would have protected myself. Young people have the power and we are the ones who are going to change the future.

Working with Teen Parents and being a Teen Parent is something you don't see alot. I think when working  with teens,, your best chance is getting someone their age to talk to them about experience that they have gone thru in order for them to pay attention. I work with teen parents, especially single young mothers, and they tell me about their struggles -  like going to school, looking for a job, being responsible and doing right things and making healthy decisions. (And what I mean by healthy decisions is getting on birth control if they know they are going to be having sex and don't want another baby, or staying abstinent after giving birth.)  Looking for a job spending time with the baby also are important  - and so is just trying to be a good parent.

The way society sees teen parents is that they can't do anything, they're dumb. Why judge us teen parents? Maybe if we had good sex education  we wouldn't  be in that situation, or maybe if adults would just be open with us about sex overall. I encourage on a daily basis other teens not to give up -  nothing is impossible. I share my story with them and I know it gives them faith not to give up.

The first time in the urban retreart I was so nervous. There was about 120 youths that came from different states and also youth that came from Africa . I learned alot about myself and others. As well  as  others learned from each other as well.I was in the Grassroots Organizing Training and we talked about some stratagies on how to bring your community in and what kind of leader you were. The  kinds of  leaders were task, visionary, ethicinal leader, and more . Also  there was discussions on Paul Wellstone the greatest guy there was when it came to Grassroots Organizing. During the training we went over some of his stratagies.

Personally  I never heard of Paul Wellstone and those who haven't look him up. Also as this being my first time to the urban retreat and being part of the IYPC , I enjoyed Lobbying  , Lobbying sounds scary because you  don't know if you are going to get turned down by your officials (in support to the REAL ACT) but one thing youth have to remeber is if it wasn't for our mothers , Fathers, Friends, Teachers (the people) our elected officials wouldn't be in office.
