Driving to work a few days ago, I was appalled to see a couple standing on the side of the road with a sign that read "Need help. Have kids." Now people who need help have always stood on the side of the road with cardboard signs but not at this particular intersections and definitely not in this small town.

So why was this couple standing on the side of the road? As I later found out, they were not yet married and had three children at home. The father is 22 years old and his girlfriend just turned twenty. They had their first two children while they were teens.

Georgia is the second highest in REPEAT teenage pregnancy. This is definitely seen all across the state. Why aren't our legislators listening??? Let's get out there and make our voices heard. If you are from Georgia and want to get involved, look up GYUPP on Facebook. Cannot wait to hear from you!!!

Did you offer them some condoms??

Whats REALLY sad is that our legislators think we don't have a problem and that by teaching about prevention AND abstinence, we would cause a problem!  Crazy!

What young people need is access to quality health education that includes an abstinence message, messages about healthy relationships, and age-appropriate, medically accurate information.  These should come from a curriculum that is evidence-based, or proven to work, and taught by trained teachers who feel comfortable with the correct information and with talking to young people about sex and relationships!
