Women's Centers are milestones in some places. They allow many women in those areas to seek guidance and resources when they have questions about their reproductive issues. As someone who is highly passionate about women's rights and reproductive justice, it always saddens me when these places close due to limited resources and lack of staff, but in Mahoning Valley, one lady has just decided to retire her services and the center that holds the her town together.

According to WYTV Youngstown, "Women looking to have an abortion in the Mahoning Valley will now have to travel to Akron, Cleveland or Pittsburgh. The Mahoning Women's Center in Youngstown closed its doors Tuesday. The clinic opened in 1976. Owner Maryann Baker decided to retire after 34 years and the building will be sold!"
So sad...
Baker's son, Tim, said his mother worked hard over the years to promote women's rights."Making the National Organization for Women prominent in the city of Youngstown," he said.
"She made her passion into a career, and because of what she did, she was able to advance a lot of the rights that women now enjoy today."
Well, she is such an amazing women to dedicate her life and services to women who are in need of reproductive services and resources. Another Organization in the town is quite delighted that the Women's Center is closing
Members of the Mahoning County Right to Life said it is positive and good for the community.
My Thoughts...
It is really sad that the Center has to close, but I think that Ms. Baker dedicated a lot of time and resources in making sure women had options and could make the best decision for them. I hope that this does not deter women from seeking resources at the other available centers listed.
