Sooo it has been a big semester for HIV/AIDS Awareness in Gainesville and at UF. UF received the Trojan Her Pleasure condoms and they've definitely been a success. They are purple and individually wrapped with a cute little message on the back saying "if you don't need this sample pass it on to a friend who does."
To the "Get Real" Portion of the Blog
Most people in the HIV/AIDS awareness communty who do a lot of outreach can attest to the fact that it is hard to get women to take condoms so having a more feminine package with a female oriented slant is a little bit more helpful in convincing women that it is okay to admit to having a sex life in public. Although I do feel like packaging and marketing are sooo important to HIV/AIDS Awareness, ladies GET REAL. These men are not taking 10 condoms at a time because the world is full of women who don't have sex, babies are not being born from virgins, and STD's are transferred sexually (just in case that was in question) so no need to pretend anymore. Society has made it really hard for women to take an active stand on their sexual health and responsibility and I'm letting you know one woman to another, I am NOT judging you if you take a condom, I am more worried if you don't. We buy car insurance just in case, we wear seatbelts just in case, we carry umbrellas just in case, but we won't get condoms just in case. GET REAL! If we were to go around and find out how many people actually planned their pregnancy we'd find out that many people had babies in a "it just happened" manner. In the same way these babies "just happen" so can HIV/AIDS and a host of other STD's. If sex is something you have to hide so vehemently there are probably bigger issues involved (your age, state of mind, etc) so take a good luck at your sexual health and remember safer sex is the least of three options: Abstinence, Monogamy, or Condoms. If you don't do the minimum you'll get the maximum in consequences. HIV is a preventable disease and with the exception of mother to baby transmission we DO NOT have to have anybody else infected if we just learn that our biggest judge should be ourselves so don't sentence yourself to life with HIV/AIDS, but grant yourself life with probation against risky behavior. I LOVE my campus and I am sooo glad to see college students GET REAL and with the help of the Great American Condom Campaign and Trojan we are reducing the statistics one person at a time!!
