When many people go to the mall they make sure to stop at all of the brand name stores to make sure what they buy is made of the best material, they feel comfortable in or with those items, and look good while wearing these brand name items. Others just like to find a good deal. Take this same thought and apply it to condom selection. You want the best brand name condoms because of the material/lubrication, a brand you feel comfortable in verse another, and depending on size, color and/or texture, work best for you and your partner.
So here it is the list of the top 10 condom brands from undercovercondom.com that are used by Americans today. They judged on safety, comfort/feel, sales/ratings/reviews, and “other” statistical factors:
1) Crown (Skin Less Skin)
2) Reality Female Condom FC2
3) Trojan (Her Pleasure Ecstasy Ultra smooth)
4) Lifestyles (Skyn Non-Latex)
5) Beyond Seven
6) Durex (Extra Sensitive)
7) Trojan (Extended Pleasure Lubricated)
8) Durex (Avanti Bare)
9) Trojan (Ultra Ribbed Ecstasy Ultra smooth)
10) Kimono (Micro Thin)
Brands can be important to some people, but if you are in a situation where none of these options are available, be smart and still use another brand; it will get the job done. Every condom company in the USA follows FDA regulations where every condom is checked for any defaults. (Refer to our previous blog for more details on condoms by sorting out the facts and myths) Many of these brands can actually be found in our condom bowl located in the Hollis Center of Stetson University. So instead of Gucci, Lacoste, or Armani Exchange we here at the Office of Wellness and Recreation like to think Trojan, Crown, and Durex ;)
Spring love is in the air here at Stetson University and with Spring Break starting next week, the office of Wellness and Recreation is amping up condom awareness by exposing their myths! At our monthly Health Hut on campus(entitled “Spring Break Stop”), we informed students in a trivia game about some myths on condom use. Such as:
-People are allergic to latex: while this is true for some people there are many alternatives now a days.
-Condoms are hard to find/too expensive: Here at Stetson University we offer many places to get condoms such as the C-Store and the condom vending machine in Emily Hall. We also have ways to get condoms for free in the Hollis Center, from RA’s, dorm halls, and at our Health Huts.
-Condoms decrease satisfaction/kill the mood: many condoms these days are designed to increase satisfaction or are made to be thinner and still give the same amount of protection.
-Condoms do not have a shelf life: this could not be more false. ALL condoms have an expiration date that varies depending on the condition you keep it in. If it is tucked in your night stand then it will last longer than the condom you have kept in your wallet. Heat, friction, and time all play a huge role in the shelf life.
-Double ‘bagging’ will ensure safety: this too is a huge myth. Using two condoms actually increases the risk of breaking because it increases friction.
-The guy can pull out before anything happens: fluids can escape pre-ejaculation. If this is the method you use, you are asking to get pregnant or an STD.
-Guys are responsible for keeping condoms/knowing how to put it on: although it may be more convenient for them to have a stock in their drawer and be aware how to use one, it may not be the case. So do not put your life in someone else’s hands ladies, and educate yourselves on condom use and have some with you.
Remembering these myths and informing your friends, you can save lives and prevent pregnancies. You want fun pictures, souvenirs, and an empty bank account after spring break; not an embarrassing visit to the doctors office, health problems, or a baby to be how you remember your Spring Break.
We wish everyone a fun and SAFE spring break!
A new year means a time to turn a page on the book we call life and start a new chapter. That might mean making changes, learning from previous chapters, or forgetting them all together. I bet some of us would like to re-write a few previous chapters...but what has been written cannot be changed and we must simply learn from those previous pages. Here at Stetson we hope that many students make the change or continue to be sexually responsible by deciding to "wrap it before they tap it!" In a recent Reality Campaigne Survey, we found that 48% of Stetson students neglected to use protection during their last sexual encounter. As we strive to lower that number, we remind students about all the many convenient places to get condoms, sex education, and/or confidential help. We are also thinking about more ideas to help students in the best ways possible in all of these areas. What is your sexual resolution for the year? ;)
October is an exciting month here at
Here at Stetson University we are well into our fall semester & the Office of Health has been busy teaching our Hatters about sexual health as well as many other aspects of their wellness. Many of our presentations for the beginning of the year have included much information on condom usage & sexual health. For example, our Buzz presentation that we give to the incoming freshman every year talks about all the places you can get free condoms on campus. Not too long after the Buzz, we had our first annual Party Safety Workshop that was open to all Stetson students. From the title of this workshop, I am sure you can assume that condoms were a big topic of discussion here. Our Healthy Hatter Wellness Interns had many booths targeting the issues that arise at parties (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.), one of them being dedicated to condom use and sexual health! Our RA’s here at Stetson are also very informed on the importance of condom usage & have made it a point to make condoms available to all their residents.
When I had a friend from my hometown visit Stetson, she was quite impressed on the beauty of our campus & the ‘cute’ downtown area that we have close by.
When I showed her my dorm building, she was again impressed that there was a bag of condoms where the RA’s post announcements for their residents. She said, “That shows a lot about Stetson.” I retorted with the impression that she was misunderstood at our intentions, “Hey, we are just promoting the practice of safe sex.” She just smiled & said, “That is what I meant! It is great that you care for your peers & acknowledge that sex happens, but to be safe about it.”
We hope to continue our campaign to remind students to “Wrap it before they tap it.” With the design of a new cartoon condom mascot (coming soon!) & more workshops, students will have more aid than ever here at Stetson University to locate condoms & stay informed on sexual health.
Its official, the health and wellness interns are legitimately associated with giving out condoms. This is not a bad thing, however, because it means that students on campus are becoming aware of resources to aide in the protection of self when connecting with another. Should a change be made so that the interns provide condoms at every health hut to come now? Yes. The interns voted and decided due to this association that condoms should be given out at every health hut to ensure our fellow students safety with their crusades.
Condoms are hot items here and due to popular demand we have also added a new condom bowl so students can anonymously grab a condom or two to barricade the sperm behind a great wall of latex. The new bowl is located in The Cross Cultural Center-Tri-C. This is very exciting and we hope that students will continue to feel comfortable grabbing condoms. Remember, don’t make a mistake, and cover the snake!
