For many in the women’s health community, the election of Barack Obama signals a new era in sexual and reproductive health.

But what exactly does this mean for women and girls around the world?

Just days after his swearing in, President Obama repealed the Global Gag Rule, effectively expanding opportunities and funding for family planning worldwide with the help of the U.S. government. This monumental change in policy may be just the beginning of new leadership for an issue that affects millions of people, but that received little attention in the previous administration.

Join the online discussion today - After the Gag Rule: A New International Agenda for Women and Girls, a Global Women and Health Salon. Through a partnership with the UN Foundation, the online forum is being hosted on UN Dispatch and RH Reality Check and features leading reproductive health and women’s issues experts and commentators, including:

•Sheryl WuDunn, Former New York Times reporter and co-author (with Nicholas Kristof) of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide ;

•Adrienne Germain, President of International Women's Health Coalition;

•Michelle Goldberg, Author of The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power and the Future of the World;

•Laurie Mazur, Population expert and author of Beyond the Numbers: A Reader on Population, Consumption and the Environment; and,

•Alanna Shaikh, Writer for Change.org's Global Health blog.

Join in the discussion today by visiting  RH Reality Check and posting your question or comment.
