I applied to become a safe site for Drew University because me and my friend Ben Privot were giving consent workshops to Drew's entire freshman class- it's 500 people. So we said, "Easy! we can get rid of these condoms in a flash."
And we did.
The workshops were a huge success and we got great feedback; people said they learned, in my opinion, SUPER important things like a lack of the word "no" does not mean yes and that it is okay for them to say "no" whenever they want to. That was so exciting to see.
We had the box of condoms out after the workshops for people to take and people were quite liberal with their handfuls, but hell yeah! More condoms hopefully just means safer sex. The condoms were gone over two weeks so really- we had five workshops throughout the two weeks so really, the condoms were gone in a matter of five nights.
Woo!
I want to apply to be a safe site for next year as well. I'm sure I would be just as successful at handing out 500 condoms to eager students at my university. If I do one thing throughout my college career that I would be the most proud of, I would promote safe sex on my campus. Being a safe site gives me the resources and motivation to do so.
I'm so glad that I applied, was able to get the condoms, and then realized my hope of giving them ALL away (as is required =] ).
I look forward to posting on this blog more, as well as to hopefully becoming a safe site again next year!
Where did you get yours?
