Last Tuesday, Republican Scott Brown was elected to the Senate seat left vacant by the tragic death of Senator Ted Kennedy.  Leah627 wrote a great post about the Massachusetts (Massastupids?) meltdown, and how Scott was able to win the election.

In his victory speech, Scott Brown said that his two daughters are available.  It was pretty bad.  Check out this video:

Feministing has a post up about this, but I wanted to go into it in a little more detail.  Sure, Scott Brown was just making a joke about his daughter (clearly an attractive woman) being single, but it was very not cool with me.  He clearly embarrassed his daughter, and acted like a total jerk by saying something inappropriate.  He also made it clear that he views the sexuality of women as things to be given up to another man, which goes against a vision of healthy sexuality where people are free to do with their bodies what they want.
It sounded from the above video that Scott Brown wants to marry his daughters off quickly and avoid an embarrassing Bristol Palin type of episode where one of his daughters has pre-marital sex (gasp!) or lives with a man she is not married too.  I do not know much about Scott Brown and his family, this is just my reaction to this video.

Many other people agree with me, including none other than GLEN BECK.  Thats right.  On his radio show Glenn Beck mocked Scott Brown, saying

Hey, my two daughters on a meat market...My wife would have pieces of my body in a drawer this morning. My daughters never would have spoken to me again.’

If Glenn Beck calls you out for making inappropriate comments to your daughters about who they date, then you have crossed the line.

I think that fathers and mothers should be more trusting of their daughters and sons. I have seen a father make fun of his daughter for not dating anyone at the time.  He thought he was being nice by telling her that she was beautiful and should get a boyfriend, but in truth she had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and was trying to be independent.  If the father was more open, trusting, and understanding, he would be able to support his daughter in a tough time as opposed to making her feel bad.  Having your father elected to the US Senate is tough on the personal lives of the daughters, and making this type of joke makes things worse.  One of the two daughters onstage reportedly received over 1,500 friend requests and 300 messages on her Facebook account, mostly from men.

I have also seen parents never give their children any freedom, and never trusting them to be with boys alone, and this also has harmful effects on the teenagers.  Instead of being Daddy's perfect little girl, sometimes the girl will have sex, and not understand the consequences of not using protection.  Then that girl has to deal with an unplanned pregnancy, and terrified parents, when she is terrifed herself.  I have seen this happen to people I know more than once.  The solution is for parents to trust their kids, and be open and respectful.  This is the OPPOSITE of how Scott Brown acted.

Is Scott Brown misogynistic? Maybe, I would like to hear what you think.  One thing is for sure: he is a lesson to all parents to trust your children and respect them, not make crass jokes about who they date.

I think that is a great realization. Parents should really trust their children and at the same time the children should not abuse the trust that their parents give to them. The recent victor of the special Senate Election in Massachusetts, Scott Brown, has something in common with American Idol – besides that no one really cares. Scott Brown has a daughter, Ayla Brown that was a contestant in the fifth season of Idol, and reached the Top 16. That said, Idol has not promised to be another dog in the manger, as Brown has, for Obama's health care bill. It seems any payday loans from Big Pharma and Big Insurance have been well spent. That said, perhaps this will be the big boost her career needed.
