Day 15 of the 40 Days for Life Blogathon:
The heart beat bill has become a divisive issue among the community. Some stand with the Ohio Right to Life in not supporting the heart beat bill, but instead other smaller attacks on reproductive justice – burdens to the judicial bypass system, 20 week bans, and bans in health plans through the new state exchange. The rest of the community stands with Faith2Action and Janet Porter in supporting the heart beat bill.
This division has led to the creation of a new organization, Ohio ProLife Action. Here is a video from their press conference today in the Ohio State House. The very end of the video shows a new TV ad they will be running in support of heart beat. It is terrible, as you can imagine.
What will be the fate of the heart beat bill? Currently the president of the Ohio Senate has a group of lawmakers reviewing the legal questions related to the bill. Shouldn’t you have done that before passing it in the house, or even introducing it?
For now, Ohio folk, continue to contact your state senator telling them to OPPOSE heart beat!
