Hello Im Michael Groover and I work an organzation that specializes in sexual health promotion. Please bare with me this is my first post but let me tell you a little bit about what my team and I do for the youth in our area. Our program is designed to promote sexual health and responsibility among youth, ages 13-24. Da’ Truth Sexual Health Promotion program offers referral services as well as peer counseling through group or individual sessions. Sessions include: HIV/AIDS Awareness, Teen Pregnancy, STI/STD Education Chlamydia, Hepatitis B, Herpes, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Prevention and Safe Condom usage. The members of our group of local students from are targeted areas of Hempstead, Roosevelt and Uniondale, were some of my co workers are in high school and a few of us are in college.
But on to the main focus we send out email blast with heatlhty facts and things we would like for our particpants to know. Myths on HIV/AIDS
1. I can get HIV by being around people who are HIV positive. (Myth)
2. I don't need to worry about becoming HIV positive - new drugs will keep me well. (Myth)
3. I can get HIV from mosquitoes. (Myth)
4. I'm HIV positive - my life is over. (Myth)
5. I'm straight and don't use IV drugs - I won’t become HIV - positive. (Myth)
6. If I'm Receiving treatment, I can’t spread the HIV virus. (Myth)
7. My partner and I are both HIV positive - there's no reason for us to practice safer sex. (Myth)
8. I could tell if my partner was HIV-positive. (Myth)
9. You can’t get HIV from oral sex. (Myth)
