I am currently a senior in high school who seems to be easing out of the CMSD at perfect timing. CMSD is in a 13 million dollar deficit. To receive this 13 million dollars their has been cuts in things such as spring sports. People are very devastated by track being cut. A lot of teens in the inner city run track and were planning on using that to receive scholarships. The school district is also talking about taking away bus tickets. A lot of teens can’t afford to pay bus fare every day of school. Another concern to look at is some people have had altercations with to many people at their home school’s. This would disrupt their education as well as others. I don’t think having less principals at large schools would work out to well. Students often tend to behave worse when a principal is gone so having less principals would just cause complete chaos. With teen parent on the rise I don’t understand how preschool can be taken away. Parents need some where to leave there kids while they’re at work. I think teens in the CMSD school district have a terrible future to look forward.
Times have certainly changed since the 1800’s. There once was a time when the thought of a woman going to college was shocking. In this day and age that sounds unbelievable but just one-hundred forty three years ago in the year 1868 the culture as well as life style was much different. In the year 1868 the first woman at Ohio University Margaret Boyd enrolled in the university as M. Boyd. The faculty eventually knew of the fact of her being a girl but didn’t have any objection. Although the faculty didn’t have any objection they did have a fear that the public would not like the college having a female student. Once the faculty realized it was a general approval of her presence. A surprising fact is when she received her diploma she noticed the president had added masculine endings to her name. Do to Margaret’s determination the endings were changed and she was known for changing women expectations across the world.
Every year tons of people are bullied throughout middle schools and high schools. I feel that this bullying has to end before someone gets hurt or hurts themselves. People go to school and just think that bullying is harmless. Well the people who think this are wrong. In this month alone I have had to read four articles about teens committing suicide because people were either bullying them physically or through the internet. One of the articles I had to read about was the death of 18-year-old Tyler Clementi. Tyler was a bright student at Rutgers University, and he was outed by people on the internet who called him gay, which eventually led him to commit suicide. There have been three other events such as this one this month, including 13-year-old Seth Walsh in California, Asher Brown of Texas who was also 13, and 15-year-old Billy Lucas of Indiana. With all of these people committing suicide over people bullying or teasing them next time you or about to engage in bullying think how it could end with either you getting hurt or someone else.
I was looking in a condom aisle in a store. There were tons of condoms to choose from. The store had the usual normal condoms that everyone knows about such as thin condoms and magnum condoms but they also had some different things that really caught my eye. One thing they had that caught my eye was the Trojan Fire & Ice condoms. Another thing that caught my attention was the vibrating ring. As I looked around the condom aisle I noticed the lamb condom were the most expensive. In my head I was thinking if those cost the most they must obviously be the most protective. I took the time to find out some information about lamb skin condoms and discovered they were very ineffective from preventing diseases. In my head I was still thinking if this is true why do they cost the most. Then out of no where it hit me. The reason the lamb condemn cost so much is because not as many people in the world use it as latex so for them to make enough money they mark their prices really high. After all of this I learned you don’t get what you pay for.
It seems that the media constantly advertises sex everyday. Every time I go to listen to the radio seven times out of ten I hear a song about sex. A couple songs that I can name off the top of my head when I think of what the radio plays are "Neighbors Know My Name", "Say Ah", and "Bedrock". No matter what your doing it's like you can't really run from sex being advertised. Every time I get on the computer I might be looking for music on a web site and while I'm browsing, there are a bunch of ads in the corners promoting sex hot-lines. I've come to the reality that sex advertisements are a way of life. Personally I don't have a problem with it but when I'm not looking for sex it shouldn't find me.
Males and females both have different friendship standards. Females usually hug when they see each other, while males shake hands. Female best friends even go to the point where they can kiss each other on the cheeks, but if a male tries to give his male best friend a kiss he is considered gay. Personally i wouldn't kiss my male best friend because I would never be comfortable enough with a male to do that. I think society make us like this but this isn't something new. Thing have always been like this. I think society will never change.
Someone recently abandoned their naked new born baby on the hood of car in the freezing cold. I think who ever left the baby on top of the hood of a car did the right thing in one way, but in another way did the wrong thing. One way I think they did the right thing is that they probably realized they couldn’t take care or provide for this child, so why not leave it somewhere that it’s bound to be found by someone who can. Another way to look at this is leaving a baby in the cold on top of a roof is a terrible idea because it’s a possibility that the baby could have been found on the news dead the next day. This event is sad and also shocking because it shows how people in today’s society just run from their problems. There’s a reason for everything so until the unknown person turns their self in and explains the reason I will never know.
