So it is said that the Uganda Anti-homosexuality law will be most likely passed. The law would include banning sex between the same gender, and condemn the death penalty for people who engage in homosexual sex with a minor or while infected with HIV. It would also subject parents up to 3 years in prison if they know their children are having gay sex and do not tell authorities. This law has caused alot of chaos and even some European nations have condemned the law and announced they will withhold aid if the law passes. The United States are on the other hand, have prefered to lobby against the measure in private meetings with the authorities of Uganda and not withhold aid because they believe it will cost too many lives. I believe the United States is not taking a strong stance in this situation. They are not being helpful because regardless of the law passing, they will in some way or another still help Uganda. I think that is very unfair. If they believe that aid will cost lives, then they should also know that criminalizing homosexuality will also COST EVEN MORE LIVES. This law is a violation of human rights and it should NOT BE PASSED.

Wow I didn't know that they were still going to such extreme measures in this day and age. I recently learned the hard way that there is no "fairness" when dealing in morality...it's a really deep issue with no good outcome no matter how bad you want it

What is the purpose of this law? Is it to deal with the moral issue of homosexuality or is it to try to minimize the spread of HIV?  Homosexuality isn't a choice if that is your sexual preference so I view that as taking the rights of citizens of Uganda who are homosexual.  If the law is an attempt to prevent the spread of HIV I see it as a vain effort, simply because homosexual sex is illegal doesn't mean that it won't happen.  Even if the law were to scare some of the gays in the country straight so to speak if an infected person who is unaware that they are infected or even if they are aware has sex with a straight person and passes it to them and that straight person goes to someone else and has only straight sex the disease is still being spread.  I don't understand what purpose such a law would serve and I see it as a vialation of personal rights.

I think that the law is just a scare tactic or at least to put a pretense that the government has ultimate power...blah blah blah..etc. I had a discussion not too long ago about human rights. There are so many double standards when it comes to that specific issue. I argued to the death of it but in the end there will always be people who are agianst things and take an extreme view on it. I'm told that basically because it's viewed as imorally wrong it doesn't matter much if that person if happy being themselves. No man has the right to take another mans life no matter the reason. I don't believe that it's our job to take punishment into our own hands. I am religious but I am also very logical person. I don't believe that there's a God who inctructs us in acceptace and compasion for everyone but would then say " no it's only for these people" it doesn't add up to me and I'm sticking to that.
