So I was just thinking the other day who practices abstinence anymore? I mean I know that we teach abstinence and how to stay no, but who actually does it? I believe if you have 24 students and enrolled in them in a abstinence course for 6 weeks, you would be lucky if five of those students continued to practice abstinence after the class was over. Yes abstinence is the idea until marriage, but those days are long gone. Although I believe that teaching abstinence is necessary, it is also necessary to teach about protection. For example, let's say a student takes an abstinence class but later on in life decides not to practice it anymore. This person knows little about protection, therefore they have sex with no protection or the protection is used incorrectly. Now this person ends up catching an STD or gets pregnant. So tell me what was so good about that abstinence class. So to all sex educators stop teaching abstinence only it is time to teach about protection.
