As the end of the school year approaches people are swamped with end of the year work. Which has been my situation as well. I haven't had a chance to post in a while so now that I finally have a break I wanted to discuss the mini milestones the past few months have brought me with condom distribution.
February was a very good month with condom distribution. At the time we were hiring for new community advisors on campus and I was the mentor for two prospective CAs. They decided to hold a program for Valentine's Day to make valentines etc and as an incentive to come to the program they advertised FREE CONDOMS. I was able to distribute PLENTY of condoms through this program.
Also, I had a friend who was also going through the process trying to become a community advisor. He held a program on sex education. He gave his audience shocking sex facts and attendees were shown the proper way to put on a condom. We were able to distribute a lot of condoms with this event as well.
After returning to school from Winter Break, I learned that I had been moved from my room at the time, to another room in our complex. The move made me very sad because I loved EVERYONE on my old from but it opened up opportunities to distribute more condoms on my new floor. I made a poster for the residents to see that I was a Safe Site and at our first floor meeting I explained to them what being a Safe Site was all about. Many of my new residents have already taken advantage of the opportunity to get FREE CONDOMS!!!
I'm determined to get rid of ALL of my condoms... one resident at a time!
I received the condoms yesterday and since I have gotten them I've lreadygiv out SOmay. My Bulletine board hs brought many people to my room and people are spreading the word. I Put some condoms on my bullentine board as well and people have taken them off of there as well.
Initially the first batch of condoms I passed out was to other Community advisors in my complex. I gave each CA five condoms and I attached a slip stating that I was a SafeSite and that if they used the condoms or gave them out was up to them. I also said on the slip that if they needed more condoms or know of anybody who may need some they can direct them to meet. I estimate I have given out atleast 50-70 so far. Its hard to tell because it still looks like I have SO many.
My plan this weekend is to go through and count my remaining condoms and set aside certain amounts for programs, my bulletine board, and drop ins.
