I have heard a lot of presentations, workshops, marketing, and more, telling people to “Wrap It Up” Practice Safe Sex. People have been saying this for years, but often people still choose not to practice safe sex. There are various reasons people don’t regularly use condoms...They don’t feel good, didn’t have a condom available, felt awkward bringing up condom use with their partner. How do you get people to use condoms? Sometimes the best way to figure something out is to go back to step one...

What did I come up with?? Have condoms available… it's that simple. But what about Condom Negotiation…Flavors… Brands… Colors…???? Well, these are things that can be focused on later. Baby steps my friend, baby steps.

So I came up with a few ideas on how to make condom availability easier…

  1. Take advantage of FREE CONDOMS!!! Check out your school’s health center, the local health department, local non-profit agencies that focus on sexual health…or email a Youth Activist [Columbia.YAN@gmail.com] Most agencies/organizations will offer a wide variety of condoms, giving you plenty of options to figure out your preferences.
  2. Think of a creative ways to carry them around

….anything from a retro coin pouch

  3. ….to an empty Altoids mint tin

or that business card holder you got for graduation then tossed in your junk drawer, (Not that I've ever done that)…

  4. Don’t pass up cool condom knick-knacks … I’m sure that if you check out a sexual health event or organization targeted to youth (like YAN!!!) they can give you free condom key chains, condom necklaces, condom tins, or condom wallet. I have seriously seen all of these things and more just my checking out local sexual xhealth events. At USC, at student organization called SHARE gives out ONE Condom tins like this...

  5. Have “just-in-case” stashes… Try to identify places you most likely need condoms and store condoms there just-in-case.
Okay so those are just a few ideas I came up with… what do you think? Feel free to share your own ideas!!!
