This world can be a really interesting place. A woman with 14 kids suddenly gained national recognition in a day. Yet her fame was most definitely NOT congratulatory. No, no, my friends. Because it would be crazy to wish a mother of 14 “good luck.” Nah, instead we give her death threats.
And still the craziness
continues. A Roman Catholic archbishop says the abortion of twins carried by a 9-year-old girl who allegedly was raped by her stepfather means excommunication for the girl's mother and her doctors.
Seriously? Because it’s any of the Roman Catholic archbishop’s business? Because when a man, a stepfather no less, rapes a young girl, we should forgive and forget? Sure, under American law anyone under the age of 18 has no basic human rights (ha…ha). But if a 9 year old girl is forced to face something that no woman should ever have to face, then we’ve got a problem.
The article goes on to say that the archbishop (hell yeah, I’m going to call him out), Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, claimed that the “law of God” is above any “human law.” According to Cardoso Sobrinho:
When a human law — that is, a law enacted by human legislators — is against the law of God, that law has no value. The adults who approved, who carried out this abortion have incurred excommunication.
As a young woman who has spent six very long years in Catholic school, I have to say this: the purpose of any given religion is to demonstrate basic human kindness and respect. Religion serves as unconditional love. I think the keyword there is “unconditional.” The archbishop is excommunicating the girl’s mother and the doctors because they approved of the abortion. Many anti-choice advocates claim that abortion is another form of murder. So, do murderers get excommunicated? Do the men that kill their wives, girlfriends, and daughters get excommunicated? Is Scott Peterson getting excommunicated? No, he’s going to be executed. So are the executioners going to be excommunicated? In many cases, murderers go to confession and basically confess their sins to the priest. He then forgives them for their sins and tells them to pray. WTF? They get off with a prayer but this 9 year old girl’s mother gets excommunicated?
Wait…let’s ask a question that might give this archbishop the chills. IS THE GIRL’S STEPFATHER, THE RAPIST, GETTING EXCOMMUNICATED?
The answer, my friends, is no. The Roman Catholic Church representative, Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, has failed to excommunicate the rapist…but he’s going to go ahead and excommunicate the girl’s mother and doctors.
F@#$ that.
The 9 year old girl was carrying twins, and was 80 pounds. According to MSNBC, her life was in danger. Abortions are generally illegal in Brazil, except in instances when the woman’s life is in danger.
Sometimes, I just really do not understand this world.
The fact that the stepfather was not excommunicated is the hardest part for me to understand or deal with..this just reminds me of the sexist society we live in. the church values this sick man more than a little girl..I mean seriously!?! like you said...fuck you haha
Thanks for this post. i like to keep updated on this kind of information and share it with campus.
