The month of March is filled with the idea of getting lucky, and with St. Patrick’s Day falling on the 17th, I thought I might just join in on this concept. So this time, with 500 of the 1,000 condoms that I received through the Great American Condom Campaign, Lee and I decided to help out UNC with getting lucky.
Before our condom giveaway in the pit at UNC, the condoms were pre-wrapped with green yarn, shamrock stickers, and one of three messages that read either “Don’t Push Your Luck”, “Get Lucky” or “Feeling Lucky?” The condoms were then placed in little pots, because we know that the gold at the end of every rainbow is in fact condoms!
The morning started off a little slow, with people not being too receptive about us handing out condoms, but Lee and I had a goal…we had to ensure safe sex among those people that were in fact planning to get lucky that night.
So, when 12:00 rolled around and the crowds thickened, we manned the doors in front of the dining hall and handed out condoms there. Who could refuse condoms while going to get something to eat?
The turnout was great and there were actually quite a few people that were really happy about our attempts to promote safe sex. Lee and I also enjoyed some interesting comments from the recipients of the condoms, all of which just added to the experience.
So, thanks to the Great American Condom Campaign, I was able to spread the message of “Don’t Push Your Luck” to my campus!
