Each week, I’ll be posting a list of the most news-worthy and/or inspirational, informative, well-written, thought-provoking, and/or unique posts of the week. While every post and every contributor is valuable to our community, these are the blogs that I feel are must-reads.
May 30- June 5
Tony Perkins: Ending don’t ask don’t tell would undermine religious liberty- by AFY_Viviana
Why I chose this post:
Quoting Perkins:
For no other offense than believing what all the great monotheistic religions have believed for all of history, some service members will be denied promotion, will be forced out of the service altogether, or will simply choose not to reenlist.
The definition of homophobia, no? We must fear the big, bad gays…even though we’ve been serving side by side with them forever!
And furthermore, honestly, I don’t want homophobes fighting to protect only some of this country. The military fights for us all, regardless of our sexual orientation.
*sigh* Homophobia is frustrating.
Healthy Relationships According to “Wild at Heart” Masculinity- by Lklouise
Why I chose this post:
Honestly, this post made it on the list even before I finished reading it. Lklouise is becoming one of my favorite new writers on Amplify.
What I believed as progressive principles to healthy relationships are apparently not without a lot of challenge from the extreme right.
LK writes about the consequences of teaching abstinence-only-until-marriage in schools, including the gender stereotypes/roles that are ultimately encouraging unhealthy relationships.
We Are The Generation That Will Win The War On AIDS- by dandaman6007
Why I chose this post:
This is a very well written and well researched post by Dan that is sure to inspire you!
We are the generation the world needs to solve this problem, and we are ready for the challenge.
Obama extends benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees- by AFY_Viviana
Why I chose this post:
Another important step toward full, federal equality.
On June 2, President Obama signed a memo extending child care, employee assistance, credit union membership and other benefits to gay and lesbian federal employees' same-sex domestic partners and their children.
Thank you to everyone who posted a blog this week! You are part of what makes this community great!
