I just got back from the best spring break trip to San Francisco! I went with wonderful friends and stayed with someone who showed us the most Southern Hospitality I've ever experienced outside of the Souith. (I'm from SC, so I've experienced a lot of Southern Hospitality.) We walked all over the city, and saw some very cool sites, and I have to share about one i particular.
There are so many thrift stores in San Fran, and a specific one caught my eye, and exemplified what I see as the progressive world of California (aside from the whole overturning gay marriage thing). It was called Out of the Closet, and it offered FREE HIV TESTING. IN THE STORE. So, you could pick up a new floral dress AND make sure you were a healthy person ALL AT THE SAME TIME! This combination seemed really innovative! The testing is offered in a private area of the store, and it only takes 20 minutes!
The thrift store was in the middle of a busy and fun area frequented by the under 30 crowd, making it a great place to offer this sort of service. While there are so many great clinics out there that offer similar services, I think that they become less desirable to visit when they are so far away from the areas youth actually hang out in.
Can you tell I was impressed? Want to know more? Visit the Out of Closet website. (Of course, all a but a few locations are in California.)
