Having your period monthly takes a toll on all of us physically and mentally, but now women at a company in Norway have to announce to everyone that they are on their period.

Female employees at an unnamed company in Norway have been instructed to wear red bracelets when they are menstruating—this is so their bosses can be aware of why they need to frequent the bathroom more frequently.

Times are tough, and every minute of a worker’s day is extremely valuable in relation to bringing in profits for companies. Managers at one company in Norway are keeping tabs on its employee’s bathroom breaks.

One study shows that 66% of managers monitor the breaks of their employees—some force employees to request an electric key for the bathroom. The study also shows that one third of companies have the bathroom door on video surveillance and some also make employees sign in a book to report their visits to the bathroom. We as women know, that when we are on our period, we are more likely to frequent the bathroom, due to the nature of menstruation. I think this is absolutely crazy that women are being monitored for their bathroom use! I cannot believe some of our sisters in Norway are given the scarlet letter literally when there are riding the crimson tides!

What do you think!

This is new O.o

Well, I disagree, but I also somewhat agree (if that makes sense). I disagree because it's extremely degrading to any woman that has to wear those--it's really none of anybody's business when they're on their period! Nobody really needs to know what goes on down there!  D:<

But it is a possibility that the employees at that business were constantly getting up to use the restroom just to get out of their work duties. If this is true, the manager was probably fed up with it because the company couldn't afford to waste any time, therefor, he made the female employees were the "period bracelets" so the manager knew they weren'y just getting up to waste time.

Maybe you should look into why exactly they started enforcing this.

Um, my first thought when I see those bracelets is their popularity a few years ago when the pro-ana (anorexia as a lifestyle instead of a disease) movement was very prevalent. In any case, it sounds ridiculous.

I agree with rainbowfloutist on both stances. Great post Kathleen!

People should realize that a red string bracelet is widely recognized as a symbol of being Pro-ana or pro-anorexia.  I also think women should stop using their period as an excuse for bad behaviour, poor performance and a disagreeable disposition.  I have friends who claim to be pre-menstrual and menstrual for over three weeks a month leaving them only a few days on which anyone should expect them to behave "normally."   We are stronger than that!
