Could a private religious school expel a student who comes out, fire that student’s parent who happens to teach at the school because they were supportive of their child's coming out, get away with it all and STILL receive state funds in the form of school vouchers? The answer is possibly.

While this sounds far-fetched, the part about the student being expelled and the parent/teacher being fired is true and recently happened.

The part about receiving state funding through vouchers could happen, and that’s where you come in.

Equality Pennsylvania has joined a broad statewide coalition of groups opposing the creation of a school voucher system in Pennsylvania because we believe that tax dollars shouldn’t go to schools that often teach negative and discriminatory things about LGBT people.

Legislation will be debated in Harrisburg in the State Senate possibly as soon as TODAY that would direct a portion of the state’s education budget be given to parents in the form of taxpayer-funded tuition vouchers to allow them to send their children to the private, public or religious schools of their choice.

If you agree with us that such legislation could have terrible consequences for LGBT youth AND LGBT parents, then call your Senator in Harrisburg TODAY and ask them NOT to support Senate Bill 1.

Like hate, equality is a concept taught and learned. Let’s make sure students learn what is right about LGBT people.
