Mahayana posted a great piece about how everybody seems to be in an uproar about Angelina Jolie's daughter dressing in a stereotypically boyish manner. Now, nobody at all should be skewering anyone's child's wardrobe choices (as long as it is not overly sexual), no matter how famous their parent is.

However, I would like to pose this question. Had Shiloh been a boy and had been dressed in a manner that was feminine, you think the media would be a lot worse about it. I think the answer is YES!!!!!

Therein lies a double standard. It is at least somewhat OK for females to dress in a slightly more male manner, hell, Patti Smith wore neckties in the 1970s. However, it is viewed as extremely inappropriate for male assigned people to wear women's clothing, and it seems like those who do get much more scorn from the general public than tomboys ever will.

If I had a child who was assigned male, and they wanted to wear a dress, I would let them. Same vice versa. We should not be forcing rigid gender roles on children, and we should be teaching children that it is OK to express themselves however they want.

I don't tend to care about Hollywood celebrities and all the TMZ style crap, but this news coverage has made me so angry, I had to say something!!!
