The largest portion of Ethiopian population is believed to be the young generation. In addition to their significant number in the country, the youth can also be agents of change and transformation in all sectors. At the same time youth are also the most vulnerable parts of the community for various problems sexual and reproductive health problems including HIV AIDS, addiction and the like.

Hence, due attention should be given for empowering the youth as competent leaders of the future. It is necessary to nurture the youth so that they can become reliable agents of success and committed, successful as well as responsible leaders.

Among others, youth can draw lessons they need in two ways: first from their peers and also from the leadership. Youth are most likely to respond when they know that their peers are doing something.

Currently youth in various parts of my homeland country are operating in clubs/associations on various issues like prevention of HIV AIDS and other reproductive health problems, harmful traditional practices, addiction, poverty, environmental protection etc.

But as compared to the level to which they can participate or the level of participation in other African countries they need to strive better in the future. The best way they can enhance their role in nurturing them today.

Youth are the most suitable parts of the community as implementing hands for comprehensive approach in the prevention of HIV AIDS. Since they are also going to shoulder the future responsibilities they are expected to competently address the overall needs of the society.

If the youth do not participate in such activities when are they going to learn their roles and responsibilities? Where can they get a better opportunity to exercise their roles other than their homeland? Who can give them this golden opportunity in their right age?

They can get no better place and time to contribute their share in the overall activities that is believed important for their nation. Therefore, leaders should give due importance to working in collaboration with the youth. They should do their level best to mainstream the issue of youth in their normal activities. They have to map the youth as their major partners.
