Welcome welcome to another episode of Open Mic. On this weeks episode I touch on a story about a young boy who got kicked out of school for coming to school dressed as a girl. So I pose the question that if you were the parent "What would you do?"-Freestyle

If I had a son and he wanted to dress in traditionally female clothing to school, I would let him. His happiness and his ability to be true to himself would be my first concern, so how could I tell him that dressing that way was bad? I realize that most, if not all, of the other kids in his class would probably not understand why a boy would dress in clothes that they associate with girls, so if he wanted to continue dressing as a girl and was having problems with it at school, I would ask the teacher if he or she would have a discussion with the class about gender issues (in a way they could understand) and why it’s not at all a bad thing that a boy would dress like a girl. I certainly wouldn’t want my son to have to put up with being teased, but I don’t think I could tell him that he has to suppress a part of himself that the wants to express in this way. If he feels more comfortable in female clothing, why would I tell him that for the sake of other people’s ignorance, he has to dress in a way that makes him feel uncomfortable?
