Phew! I havn't been blogging lately because the end of the semester has been pretty rough, but being a SafeSite has really been working out. I've had people from all over campus stopping by to pick up some free condoms, and I'm amazed by how quickly word spread. Some of the kids were people I know, but I was surprised to have people who don't know me or even live in my building come by! But after all this time, supplies are running low. It's important to keep in mind that free condoms are great, but its about being safe that is important, not just getting them because they're free. Thats why I remind everybody who stops by that my condoms won't last forever, but when they're gone its important to get some from somewhere. And it wont be very long at all before that time comes. Anyway, being a safesite has been a really interesting expirience, and I'll keep at it until all these condoms are gone.
Tonight my entire dorm building, and the sister building attached, have been invited to gather for a Root Beer Pong tournament. This tournament happens every year, and usually has a pretty good turnout because the grand prize is two iPods! It's a good prize, so people get pretty excited. And I'm pretty sure a lot of people know how to play pretty well. So, I will going to the tournament where I have a table set up with a "Free Condoms" sign thats sure to grab some attention. When people approach me I'll simply let them know why I'm there, and where they can find me on nights when there isn't a huge get together. In fact, since I've put up my SafeSite sticker I've had a few people knock on my door just to ask me what exactly it means. I really hope to distribute a good amount of my condoms tonight, but It's also a great opportunity for people to learn that I am a SafeSite and that they can drop by whenever they need to. This is pretty exciting.
I received the 500 condoms in the mail today. I was so excited that I emailed my RA to schedule a meeting concerning setting up an event to promote the distribution. I will be meeting with him on Saturday to discuss how we can get the best turnout.
I recently got an email that says my condoms are on their way, and that makes me really excited. I'm going to be a SafeSite for my college and I want to set up an event to let people know about it! I think this is a good opportunity, so I can't wait to get started.
