The most important point in addressing the problem of HIV AIDS is to make the victims of the pandemic part of the solution; ignoring them and working alone with out the full participation and commitment of the victims will never bring permanent and reliable change that every body desire. It is obvious that the awareness which have been created in the society since many years back has producing results and saving lives of many people all over the world. However in global conditions new infections are outpacing the gains achieved in putting people on treatment, and AIDS remains one of the leading causes of premature death globally. This is shows that the silence has not been broken yet; still many more people are not comfortable to speak about the disease.

A large number of people from different segments of the society are not willing to under go HIV test to know their status and they are not keen to expose themselves and starting anti-retroviral treatment (ART) because of the discrimination they are facing from their families, relatives, friends and societies. This is specially observed in scholars and elites of the societies.

Unless we further strengthen our effort to avoid stigma and discrimination it will remain as a life long assignment for tackling the problem and cultivating AIDS free societies. We should exert and put together combined effort towards fighting stigma and discrimination among the societies.

Globally the numbers of HIV positive people are numerous but the people who are taking the medicine are insignificant compared to the number of people who should have taken the medicine. Because of this many people are dying of the pandemic in different parts of the world especially in developing countries. I believe that there are a number of reasons behind this problem, the major one is lack of awareness about the pandemic. Lack of awareness helps not to break the silence on HIV and AIDS. Most people believe that they know every thing about the disease but the fact and the reality is not this. A large number of people believes that they know more about the disease but when the problem comes to their family they are the one who started discrimination, this is because of the lack of knowledge and awareness about the disease and they don’t make the knowledge part of their life that is why they usually create problems when the reality comes.

Recently the issue of preventing HIV and AIDS seams left to some non governmental organizations and the activities especially in relation to awareness creation are decreasing. The issue is strongly considered as a major problem when celebrating world AIDS Day. We can’t reduce the scourge of the disease by celebrating the day and forgetting the job of prevention for 364 days. HIV and AIDS prevention work should not be left for some group of the societies it is the work of the entire community. We all should start to make decision in battling the disease and to break the silence together. We should all together say and believe no more shame, no more discrimination and no more stigmas. We all together bring our effort to break the silence on HIV and AIDS.

Here in Ethiopia the World AIDS Day was marked in different parts of the country with the activities designed to prevent the spread of the disease. The SMS on world Aids Day was developed and sent to 2.5 and 3 million people in Ethiopia from Presidant Girma Woldegiorgis. The message embraces the twin themes of this year’s World AIDS Day, Universal access and human right, and capture the key elements of HIV strategy, prevention, treatment, care and support.

The text message urges people to be mindful of HIV, and considerate of people living with HIV and AIDS, every day and not just special occasions. When the message was sent from the national telecom, ETC, the SMS reached all mobile phone subscribers in the country, estimated at between 2.5 and 3 million people.
