It was just like any other in the state of the caliphate but unique was going to make the difference, another youth council was about to be constituted by an indigenous organization who were mainly students who thought the state of youth SRH needs to change.
They believe it was time to speak up and speak out but they had no technical direction on how. Based on the objective of EVA’s YAG and the need to reach with mass movement replicated at state level, they were reached out to.
Two members of the council travelled to the ancient city to support an advocacy workshop that would form the basis of the councils work. The sessions included, concept of advocacy, role of the media, use of social media tools and an overview of ASRH in Nigeria referencing the policy and framework.
A work plan for the council activities was also developed. According to Sidikatu, a member of the council, “it has always been a burning desire to see change but we didn’t know how, your coming has given us hope, direction, and ideas to seek the change we believe, and that the change is possible and always desired. We know we are in peculiar terrain but we also believe that the change is possible and that is why we are committed to this movement as activist.
