Ok, I guess i've become a sort of newapaper fanatic since a couple days ago when i realised i was missing out on a lot of current affairs. After not getting to see Wednesday's paper, I jumped at the chance to see Thursday's, and shock of shockers. I was met with this headline:
Health ministry to spend $12m on swine flu flare-up
Ruddy, set, go! Minister says medication sufficient to tackle outbreak
Locals not in flu hot spots – ministry
WHO says swine flu pandemic is imminent
Interesting. Kudos to the government for their initiative. WOW!! all of that in ONE DAY'S PAPER!! (**note, i omitted 2 headlines. one about a jamaican studying on a scholarship in mexico, and one on swine flu's impact on tourism in jamaica).. Wow!! Yes, money is being plowed into the HI/AIDS industry in jamaica, but when will we see the time when it is as publicised as this is?
Well, I've realised that lots of funding has been coming into jamaica, and there are many many initiatives that work towards fighting HIV?AIDS, but they just aren't being highlighted. In some cases, we're hearing the stories of what happened, but we're not seeing the results, or we aren't hearing about them. So, i've decided to run a blog project. Every week or two, i'll be talking about the HIV/AIDS initiatives in Jamaica, and how they are impacting the youth. I'll probably do interviews and find out what the young people really think about the government's and NGOs responses to HIV/AIDS in the country.
