Picture this. a large notice board beside the tuck shop. posters with student reminders, sales, parties, a poster announcing "dagger fridays"... and then right in the middle, covering half of a hugh party poster.... an ad. "Boots 4 sale. $5."

Interesting thing to note is that its like a strange black market... no name nor dorm was printed on the poster (except its expected to be the sole male dorm on campus..) yet condoms are going around.

I like the initiative. so far, i think its going ok, from what i have heard, even though i'm still not sure who's doing the selling...

Our only concern is admin. With a principal who is pro-abstinence, and contra-pre-marital sex (protected or not), it's likely to end in conflict. I don't get it though. They KNOW that students are having sex on dorm. everyone knows. and it's like they're turning a blind eye to it. the most they do is withdraw boarding privilidges, or something like that. but it still happens. and somehow i do not think they care. Maybe if they find out this condom blackmarket exists, things with start to change. change how? now THAT is the question. However, for the time being, Go Mister Anon! You have my support!

This person who ever they are, must be very brave. Although I admire their work I am afraid that they might get shut down pretty fast and may suffer some consequences.

Is there any health services at your school? Do they provide any form of contraception? Maybe a good way to get it started would be to go through them or at least partner with them to get more condoms.

According to UNICEF, 20% of HIV aids cases in Jamaica are by people aged 20 -29. That is a pretty big statistic!  And 10% of the cases are in people under 18. Not to mention that the HIV/AIDS rates are increasing. These are quite good reasons to bring to the health services/administration to provide contraception as a public health measure.

I feel your sentiments. And being one of the two major student reps, i have to keeo close watch on whats happening in case its one of the students from my jurisdiction.

I have also considered the them shutting down quickly, which is another reason i'm trying to find out more.

The school has a Health and Wellness facility. There, the nurse has condoms, HOWEVER, the majority of the students find one nurse relatively unapproachable, or really inquisitive, so they don't really want to go. What they DON'T know, however, is that she'll give out condoms in a heartbeat... (thats one of the things we've worked on.. success smells sweet!!)... It's true though... I remember when i once i didn't have condoms on me and someone asked,  i sent them there... he came back with enough to give his whole floor on dorm.. lol... so yes, the school technically provides. Even though its not as publicized, due to the whole principal story...
