Today was absolutely great. I don't think I have ever given out so many condoms or information in such a short period of time...

Today was the Health Fair and Walk Through in St. Ann'y Bay. It was so cool.... at first i was just at the clinic finishing up posters and stuff for the display, but by a little before midday we were on the streets; giving people info about AIDS and HIV, handing out booklets and flyers, and distributing condoms.

I worked with one other adult and 3 younger ones (early teens) between the 5 of us, we gave out 200 books about HIV/AIDS,100 books about condoms, and 100 flyers about getting HIV testing. between the 2 of us as ''adults". we gave out 8 Packages of condoms.. each package contains about 140 boxes of condoms, and each box contains 3 condoms.. you do the math :)

it was absolutely thrilling. it drove home a point that i keep getting reminded of everytime we go to give out information: people are hungry for information. thhey won't go the the clinic for it, or ask someone, but if you take it to them, they will gladly take it, and ask all their questions and stuff like that. thats the approach we have to take... we have to be proactive. we cant sit around waiting for people to come and ask us what they should do; we have to tell them, and we have to do it gladly. we have to show them that there is a way for stuff to be done, and things aren't always as they seem.

lets make it our personal decision to try to give out info to at least 1 person per day. when you do it, you can give them a booklet or something, but whatever you do, make it a pass it on. tell them that just as you told them, they should tell someone else, and they should tell the person they told to tell someone else etc etc. that way, we can start making an even bigger impact on the world and on how people view HIV/AIDS and PLWHA.

I am inspired by the success of your movement. About a month ago I attended a training in Washington D.C., called the Youth Advocates, where we were trained and informed about the characteristics of Comprehensive Sex Education as opposed to Abstinence Only cirriculum in schools. One of our missions is to get out there a spread the awareness about the use of contraceptives, STDs and STIs, and about healthy choices. It has been frustrating to me about how close-minded everyone is on those issues. On WAD I brought condoms to my school along with some booklets of information. When I explained to the students the reason I was so adament today, it suprised me just how many people were opposed to supporting WAD.        Movements like the one you participated in are really giving those nonbelievers a fight, and I really do believe that as long as so many of us that care keep fighting the world will be forced to change. I appreciate your blog and wish you success in what you do in the future of sexual awareness.
p.s. I was curious as to where you attained your supply of condoms? It would be alot of help for my cause, if I were able to find a sponsor.

My group is the youth arm of a clinic (Beth Jacobs Clinic). we get some of our resources from IPPF (International Planned Parenting Federation) who works with the clinic.  IPPF provides us with books and pamphlets, but for the walk-through on Saturday ,our condoms were provided by he brand Respect. They also provided us with condoms before WAD so you can try there or IPPF. Also, when we had a health fair and safer sex concert for valenines day, we got condoms from durex, so you can try there as well.
all the best! let me know if you get through. if not, i'll ask the leaders or he clinic for suggestions to give u :)
