According to an article in Elle Magazine, Zac Efron’s Mom gave him a stocking full of condoms for Christmas.  Apparently earlier in the year photos had been circulating of Zac and his girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, shopping in what appeared to be a sex shop. So Mom initiated the conversation and voila! According to Zac,”She buys me the economy box.”

My first reaction…AWESOME! Go, Mom! While yes, conversations with parents about sex can be incredibly awkward, it’s is incredibly important to have them (especially if they end with a Mom being cool enough to buy you condoms…in bulk).

Second reaction…I am so glad that Zac Efron came forward to talk about condoms! There are so many young people in the public spotlight that are in committed relationships (or not), but never mention sex… especially safer sex! We get the whole “High School Musical” innocence thing and maybe even the fact that celebrities sex lives are none of our business, but when almost half of high school seniors have had sex, it’s time to start talking about protection.

So kudos to Zac for not only using condoms, but talking about them.  I hope others follow in his footsteps.
