No, that's not Leslee Unruh or the National Abstinence Education Association.

It's the Obama Administration.

Here's the new tv ad from 4parents.gov, run by the US Dept. of Health and Human Services:

So, let's see, you've been in office 8 months now, right Barack? And this is what we're still peddling?

It gets worse at their website. Here's what they have to say about marriage:

This Web site talks a lot about marriage, and that waiting until marriage is a sensible choice for your son or daughter to make when it comes to sex. But what's so valuable about marriage? Why is marriage any different, or any better than other family situations?

First of all, let's be clear on one important point. In general, children - and adults - do better in homes headed by a married mother and father.

****

What are the benefits married people enjoy?
  • Live longer.
  • Have better physical and emotional health.
  • Are happier.
  • Earn more.
  • Enjoy better sex lives.
That's right, folks. Tell your kids they better get hitched to their heterosexual partner, or else you'll never have great sex and you'll die young, poor and unhappy. And whatever you do, don't talk about "the parts"...

Your tax dollars (still) at work...

Hopefully when the abstinence only plug is finally pulled the 4parents.gov will disappear.
The ads are slick, but funded by Abstinence Only dollars.  If only they had the same kind of $$ for talking honestly with your kids about waiting AND protection.

It's not Obama's fault. The money has been allocated and has to be spent. Hopefully, next year the money will have dried up.

Noooo!
That is a terrible commercial. It has nothing to do with SEX at all.
Fail.

ok, ok, I found one good thing about the commercial. The kid is young. Not even a teenager. That's the age parents should start talking about it.
But really, at that age, they should know more about "the parts" then about sex and relationships. It's important that kids understand their bodies.

You know you may not be a fan of Obama's, but you could at least show some respect.  If you don't want to call him Pres. Obama, you could at least call him Obama.  Using his first name is dismissive of what the man's achievement--and even George W. Bush deserved that much respect.

I've called him "Barack" before, in my writing and my life, and I didn't mean it with any disrespect. If anything, just the opposite, because I feel that he, as a Senator and then as President, has acted and spoken to me in a way that invites that level of familiarity and partnership. I never felt like I was part of Bush's "team," but Obama makes me feel that my views are important. So, in turn for that respect, I feel able to casually refer to him as Barack. If I ever met him face to face, of course I would call him Mr. President or President Obama, but this is different.
And while Joe (and I) don't like that this abstinence-only message is still being pushed, I know that Joe respects him too.

His name is Barack. Americans are free to call him Barack as much or as little as they like.
