What can we learn from the cancellation of the prom at Constance McMillen’s Mississippi high school?
Constance rules!
This is why Congress has to pass the Student Non-Discrimination Act
Hope isn’t lost -- look how many folks stepped up to hold a non-discriminatory prom!
All of the above

I spotted this old government sponsored propaganda film from the 1950's on YouTube last night. The PSA warns boys about those dangerous folks with the "mental illness" of "homosexuality". Really...

While we can at least take heart that nobody in any level of government could get away with publishing anything so mind-numbingly ignorant today, this crazy line of thinking still does exist among far-right social conservatives today. I'm sure the folks in the American Family Association or Focus on the Family would nod approvingly of this.

Or the exorcists...

That is sick. No wonder people who grew up in that time are largely so ignorant about homosexuality. It makes me mad that that video wasn't even about homosexuality at all! Those guys weren't gay! They were pedophiles, murderers, and kidnappers! There's a difference! I hated that all of the "homosexuals" featured were older adult men. That whole video was just ridiculous. It's frightening that this was probably shown in schools and that people didn't know any better but to believe it.
Thank god things are changing now.

Man, It's amazing how much society has changed and not changed over the past fifty years or so. To think that some of the people who learned from this are still alive and in politics is shocking. No wonder ignorant, anti-gay people still exist. This wasn't that long ago, yet it does make me sleep well at night knowing I can go to my school in "liberal" California and be openly bisexual.
