The Perth Amboy Youth Activist Network brings together young people ages 14-19 in the community of Perth Amboy, NJ to increase access to and knowledge about contraception, including birth control and condoms.

The Campaign

Advocates for Youth and the Jewish Renaissance Foundation, in partnership with The Plain Talk Initiative, have joined together to launch a neighborhood campaign to make sure that teens have the information, skills, and services they need to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy and STDs, including HIV.

The campaign has launched a Youth Activist Network comprised of 12 young people from Perth Amboy who are:
  • Educating their peers about healthy relationships, sexual decision making, and how and where to access contraception in their community.
  • Launching the Perth Amboy Condom Campaign (PACC), an initiative which engages local businesses to provide condoms for FREE to teens who present the PACC card.
  • Promoting the “SafeSEXT” text messaging line which serves as a resource for young people in Perth Amboy to find information about sexual health, including STD prevention and birth control and local clinics where they can get help.
  • Creating and disseminating their own educational materials through events such as Pizza Protection Parties.
  • Working with local businesses and community-based organizations to ensure that adults take an active role in preventing unwanted teen pregnancy and STIs.

Perth Amboy Condom Campaign (PACC)

The Perth Amboy Condom Campaign (PACC) is a project of the Plain Talk Contraceptive Access Initiative sponsored by the Annie E. Casey Foundation in partnership with the Jewish Renaissance Foundation and Advocates for Youth. The PACC was launched to increase teens’ access to contraception, particularly, condoms, within their own communities. We know that teens are more likely to use condoms when they can get them in a safe, confidential, and if possible, cost-free, environment. Therefore, we are working with local business owners and social service agencies to make condoms available free of charge to young people in a safe and anonymous manner. To date, eight local business owners and one clinic in Perth Amboy are participating in the campaign. Partners include: Baseline 456, D’Amigos Barber Shop, Drama Hair Salon, Get Beauty Works, Headlinerz, House of Fades II, Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey, Victor’s, and Vita Fashion, Inc. are participating in the PACC by distributing FREE bags of condoms to anyone who presents a PACC card or requests a brown bag of condoms.

Click the image below to download your PACC card — print and cut one out, and present it to one of the businesses listed on the card to get your bag of free condoms!
