New Hampshire has among the lowest rates of teen pregnancy, AIDS, and STIs in the nation. High school students in New Hampshire are more likely to report using condoms than youth in most states.

+Because of concern over recent changes in Chlamydia reporting and relative low incidence of syphilis, we used the state's gonorrhea rate as a stand-in for sexually transmitted infection rates.

While many states have recognized the damaging effects of Title V Funding and rejected it, New Hampshire continues to accept the funding ($94,901 in Fiscal Year 07).

CBAE funding is awarded to state and local organizations by the federal government, bypassing any state approval process. No organizations in New Hampshire receive CBAE funding.

New Hampshire law requires comprehensive sex education in schools. Its students must be taught the benefits of abstinence, while also receiving information about condoms and contraception.

GLBTQ students in New Hampshire are at serious risk for harassment and discrimination. However, with the state's legalization of same-sex marriage in 2009, reduced stigma against GLBTQ people will likely lead to a safer school environment.

Although New Hampshire’s sexual health statistics are among the best in the nation, there are disparities: people of color in New Hampshire are more at risk for pregnancy and HIV than whites. Young Latinas are more than twice as likely to experience pregnancy as young white women. African Americans account for fourteen percent of AIDS cases even though they make up only one percent of the population.
