TERMS OF USE

As a visitor to Amplify, you agree to follow the rules listed below. Those who violate these rules will jeopardize their membership and be subject to dismissal from the site. We also reserve the right to edit or delete posts that violate these rules.

1) Material on Amplify is largely intended for those ages 17-29. Anyone younger should consult a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult before reading or posting on the site.

2) DO NOT PERSONALLY ATTACK PEOPLE WITHIN OUR ONLINE COMMUNITY. If you disagree with something that has been posted, address the argument or statement that the person has made, but do not attack the individual on a personal basis. We expect all of our members to behave civilly, as you can surely engage in healthy debate without resorting to name calling.

3) Amplify is a project of Advocates for Youth – and Advocates for Youth is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. This means that Advocates and all of its work is totally nonpartisan and must remain disconnected from federal and state elections. Advocates for Youth does not endorse or support any party or candidate for public office.

This means that community members must refrain from discussing elections, candidates for office, and electoral campaigns. Discussion of issues, legislation, policy, and positions held by elected officials is totally fine – but postings about any candidate or campaign will have to be removed. Any hyperlinks in your post must also abide by these rules.

4) When citing a source in a post or comment, you must provide a link back to that source. Also, when copying or quoting a source for your post, it is acceptable practice to only use a portion of this source, not the entire source (and be sure to put this in blockquotes). Also, do not violate copyright laws by using photographs that you do not have permission to use. Linking back to the source of the photo is also acceptable practice. If you have any questions about use or copyright in your posts, fell free to email Advocates for Youth’s trusty librarian, Emily.

5) When posting a video that you have uploaded yourself from YouTube, you must have the expressed consent of those persons that are featured in the video. You must also make sure that all video and audio within the YouTube clip applies with copyright rules.

6) Users are strongly encouraged to back up all assertions with facts (and preferably links to supporting materials) whenever possible. Diaries which engage in wild speculation without any proof are strongly discouraged. Repeatedly posting diaries consisting largely or entirely of wild speculation is an abuse of site policy. Bear in mind that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. We also reserve the right to correct false information within your posts and comments.

7) Please avoid profane and gratuitously explicit language as well as sexually graphic or pornographic images. Any material that demeans an individual’s sexuality may be removed. You may not link to any material with profane or explicit material.

9) This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the United States and the District of Columbia, applicable to agreements made and to be performed therein without regard to conflict of laws principles. BY CONTINUING TO USE THE SERVICE, YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT.
